Marblehead Pottery Arthur Baggs vase
Marblehead Pottery Arthur Baggs vase
Marblehead Pottery decorated vase by Arthur Baggs with a repeating swag or garland design in a glossy Egyptian turquoise blue glaze against a dark olive green brown ground, with the dark red clay. This piece measures 5 1/2 inches in diameter and 3 5/8 inches high. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws, just some smooth bubbles in the glaze. Marked on the bottom under the glaze with the die stamped MP and ship mark and his conjoined AEB '26 in black. While running the pottery in the summers, he used a standard Marblehead form with matte blue on the interior and glazed it like the work he was doing at Ohio State and Cowan. The pottery was founded in Massachusetts by Dr Herbert Hall and run by Baggs. An unusual piece of New England art pottery.
