WJW Walley Pottery 3 handled vase
WJW Walley Pottery 3 handled vase
William J Walley Pottery three handled vase. Glazed in a semi matte brick red, brown and yellow ochre flambe glaze dripping over the worm like handles. It measures 9 7/8 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter at the widest. There is restoration to a drill hole in the bottom and some burst bubbles at the end of one handle but is otherwise in great condition with no chips or cracks. Die-stamped WJW. Walley used a wide variety of glazes, more than the Grueby or Merrimac Potteries to whom his work is often compared. The pottery was located in West Sterling Massachusetts where he began in 1898, making everything by hand. He died in 1919. An unusual piece of New England Arts & Crafts era art pottery.
