William J Walley Pottery leaf decorated vase
William J Walley Pottery leaf decorated vase
William J Walley Pottery leaf decorated low vase. Glazed in a beautiful curdled matte green over brown red dripping over eight hand tooled leaves. It measures 9 inches in diameter and 4 inches tall. It is in great condition with only a tiny leaf edge nick and no chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws. Die-stamped WJW. Walley vases with carved and tooled decoration are rare. He used a wide variety of glazes, more than the Grueby or Merrimac Potteries to whom his work is often compared. The pottery was located in West Sterling Massachusetts where he began in 1898, making everything by hand. He died in 1919. An unusual piece of New England Arts & Crafts era art pottery.
